Search API

The purpose of the Search API module is to offer a uniform way for external Search Engines to integrate with EPiServer. The module supports both pushing and crawling of content. It is possible to configure the metadata that is supplied with each crawled/pushed page. The module offers plugin oppurtunities for search engines that want some special rather than the default handling.

How does it work?
The modules main configuration is done in EPiServer admin mode under "Search Engine Manager" under the tools section. Here you can create new and edit existing connectors against search engines. For the connector you can configure whether the content should be crawled or pushed (or some combination). It is also possible to configure how the supplied metadata should be formatted by specifing which xsl stylsheet to use to format the meatadata.

Example

The module GoogleSearch is built as a connector to Search API, that module uses crawling of content. The code in that module shows how to use some of the plugin possibilities the Search API offers. See GSA Search
